Hey there Tee Junction readers! I’m officially on winter break now, so I should have plenty of time for blogging from now till sometime in mid-January.
How about we ease back into things with a nice Shirtspotting feature?
I was quite happy to see Mitohapa’s excellent “Red Run” (which, as you may recall, was one of the finalists for DBH’s $10k contest this year) finally get a print yesterday. The concept is far too flashy for my personal style, but as a piece of art, it’s sublime. The red pops against the pale grey and white in the most awe-inspiring way. Wotto (who recently became DBH’s art director) even framed the tee in his office, it looked so good! I agree with him; the subtle grungey texture of the original piece was preserved extremely well in the final print. Beautiful, even for DBH’s already-high standards.

If you’re anything like me, you probably know Forever 21 as that mall staple store for women. Which is why I was surprised when I discovered they had a sub-brand dedicated to men called 21Men, and a pretty cool selection of graphic tees! They’re priced similarly to the clothes found at Forever 21 too, which is to say, they’re extremely affordable for the budget-conscious. The fun example up above, for instance, is only $13.90 at retail price. A lot of the shirts in their graphic tee category remind me a lot of what you’d find at Urban Outfitters or other higher-end fashion retailers, but at much cheaper prices. The designs definitely seem to appeal to the t-shirt-blog-reading crowd more than most mall store t-shirt brands. Definitely worth checking out!

“The Future is Now” at Paper Root
The main star of Paper Root’s latest winter line is the outerwear, which consists of hoodies as well as some neat cardigans. That isn’t to say that this indie streetwear star has forgotten about quality t-shirts. While I love the abstract designs on this shirt and the inclusion of ladies’ tees, what really caught me was this awesomely retro type tee here. “The Future is Now” seems to take a page from the art deco movement of the early 20th century, which was characterized by a smooth, modern, futuristic aesthetic. The simple but eye-catching geometric background forms the perfect visual companion to the slogan, styled in well-chosen retro fonts. Also available in heather grey, if natural doesn’t work well on you.
