Oh, Snap! brings the art of photography to tees

I distinctly remember when “Oh, snap!” was the obnoxious slang phrase of choice of many of the people around me, so I thought I’d never say that I’m glad to see it re-emerge.  Though in this case, it isn’t a nonsensical exclamation, but a small-but-accomplished t-shirt brand featuring photography by amateurs and pros alike.  Oh Snap! prints the photos in their unaltered rectangular dimensions, something which never fails to make a tee feel more artsy and avant-garde.  They run a design contest of sorts, in which photographers can submit their work in the hopes of winning a prize of $100 and 4 free shirts.  And, of course, the joy of seeing their photo on a tee. (The thumbnail for this post is one of the winners, and a personal favorite.)

I’m by no means a photography junkie — I appreciate it as an art form, but I can’t delve into the details of preparing and creating shots — but you don’t need to be one to appreciate the straightforward, elegant presentation of these shirts.  The white tees allow the photos to speak for themselves, a solid decision considering just how powerful some of these images are.  I’m pretty sure they’re American Apparel, too, in case that matters to you.

I poked around their Facebook and Twitter, and it appears that Volume 2 and a new site layout will be launching soon.  I know I’ll be keeping my eye out for both.
