I’ve been following Wordboner, a typography/slogan project on Tumblr, for some time now. A couple months ago, the man behind Wordboner decided to bring his work to tees via print-on-demand company Spreadshirt. Since then, the shop has expanded to feature literally hundreds of designs. If you’re a fan of typography, or just like slogans with a little more meaning or punch than you’re used to seeing on tees, you might be interested in Wordboner. (Be aware that a select few slogans contain mature content or vulgar language.) Common subjects include puns/wordplay, love, words of wisdom, and current hot-button issues like gay marriage.
You can check out the storefront here — I recommend this site over the Spreadshirt shop interface, which is decidedly more cluttered and more difficult to navigate. You can scroll down to view best-selling designs and a list of categories, so you can more easily find your desired tee!
There are pros and cons to buying through Spreadshirt: the pro is that each design is available on multiple tee brands and colors, including American Apparel tees. You can even create your own custom Wordboner tee if none of the default options suit your fancy. The con is that the printing method (Digital Direct, also known as direct-to-garment printing) isn’t as good as screenprinting in terms of quality. Don’t let you stop you, though — although I’d take a screenprinted shirt over a DTG printed one any day, all of the shirts I’ve ordered from Spreadshirt have held up well over multiple wash cycles.
I really mean it when there are a ton of designs to choose from; you might have to set aside a good ten minutes or more to click through all of the choices!
Buy Them: $15.99-22.99 at WordbonerStore.com (European buyers may prefer the Spreadshirt.net store)
