I love almost all of the shirts on sale this week at Flying Mouse 365, but this clever parody on the famous Times Square kiss photograph* takes the cake. The use of spot color allows the vampire’s trademark cloak to pop out, in addition to providing great harmony with the blood on the nurse’s neck.
Also note the white-uniformed sailor and the woman in the background, who can also be seen in the original photograph. Instead of smiling, though, they wear expressions of horror. Great touch, Flying Mouse! However, I’m a little torn on the background buildings, which look distracting and unnecessarily blocky upon closer inspection. I think they would have looked better rendered in a similar style as the rest of the piece, which uses smooth and crisp linework.
If you like hoodies, you’ll be pleased to hear that this design is also available on a comfy American Apparel sweatshirt. I can’t imagine why they chose to print the design over the zipper instead of on the back, though.
To go on a slight tangent, I really like what FM365 has done with their front page — instead of forcing you to scroll horizontally through the new tees/hoodies, everything’s visible at the same time. They could still stand to reduce the enormous amount of white space, though, and although the hover preview feature is neat, it’s kind of annoying that you can’t click on the mock-up images to reach the product pages.
*Interesting fact I found on that Wiki page: apparently, the young sailor wasn’t kissing his girlfriend or wife — no, he was going around kissing random women! The more you know…
