Crispy Tees is the newest project by the design masters at The Black Axe. The satire is heavy and hilarious in these designs — I love it. Take, for example, this shirt with the Misfits logo sporting braces. Don’t we all know those 13-year-old kids who wear all-black and metal/punk t-shirts and think they’re the coolest shit in the world? Yeah. You can count on the Black Axe guys to bring something new and original to the humor genre.
My favorite shirt in their debut line is “The First 4“, a non-too-subtle jab at one of the most famous, most divisive metal bands of all time. I like how said jab is delivered without explicitly mentioning Metallica, instead letting the iconic style of the band’s logo do the talking. It’s a great “in-joke” tee for people who both recognize Metallica’s logo, and know about (and hate) the drastic, controversial change in their music style.
So, as Crispy Tees, writes, “is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter day sins, is it better to burn out or fade away?” Personally, I don’t mind most of Metallica’s later material, though I agree that the first four were much more technically impressive. That and nothing can ever take away the sheer awesomeness of the guitar solo in “Ride the Lightning.” (It’s my ringtone!)
