Last week we posted Part 1 of our interview with the gang over at ShirtFight, they talked a little but about what ShirtFight was all about and how it differed from some of the other T-Shirt competition sites. In Part 2, we discuss ShirtFights terms of service and, most importantly, prizes!
Remember, ShirtFight’s grand opening is set for March 5 at midnight so be sure to check it out! The winning design of their first contest will win $2009 cash! Are you read for a fight? By the way, did I forget to mention that at the end of the interview is a sneak peak of their launch designs?!
Coty: So, the T-Shirts. What kind of blanks will you be printing on?
ShirtFight: American Apparel. They’re great quality and pretty much an entry-level standard in this industry.
Coty: American Apparel seems to be the crowd favorite. OK, so in terms of the contest, do designers retain ownership of their designs if they are not winners?
ShirtFight: Great question. This is one thing that we really wanted to make sure we got right, and it was a subject that came up time and time again when we talked with the designers out there. Because our Shirt Fights only last for a week, they retain ownership and can use it however they want as soon as the contest is over. None of this “submit a design and keep it in limbo for 90 days” nonsense.
Coty: Nice! I think the designers will love to hear that they don’t have to wait.
ShirtFight: Artist focused baby, that’s our motto
Coty: OK, we talked a little bit about what ShirtFight is all about and how the weekly contests will work. What about prizes? Do runner ups get anything?
ShirtFight: Go first or go home
But while the cash prize only goes to the champ, we’ve got some ideas for side contests and prizes to promote community interaction. We want the site to be fun and alive, so yes expect lots of goodies to be given out. We can’t tell you what yet (it’s a secret), but we have some pretty great ideas in mind! We have also toyed with the idea of having multiple winners for certain Shirt Fights…you never know what we’re going to do until we do it…SUCKER PUNCH!
Coty: Cool! Will winners receive commission/residuals from every shirt sold?
ShirtFight: They will receive an up front prize for winning ($500, $2009 for the initial launch contest). I know there’s sites out there that go with the commission model, but all that really does is delay the payment to the artist (in our opinion). The design won, the artist deserves his prize…why not give it to him all at once? We will be constantly re-evaluating what the prize amount should be to make sure that the artists are receiving their fair share.
Coty: I see, so upfront payment + exposure = everyone has a good day! With a name like ShirtFight, I’ve got to ask who your favorite “fighter” is … I liked Tyson until he got all crazy.
ShirtFight: See, I liked Tyson WHEN he got all crazy
Coty: HAHA!
ShirtFight: Seriously though, I like fighters with a good heart more than their record or fame. I’m a big fan of UFC…man that can get brutal! Michael Brisbane and Forrest Whittaker are probably my two favorite fighters there, and their just simple guys that like to give it their all…you can’t ask for more than that.
Coty: Well Jud or should I say El Presidente, we’ve been at this for about an hour now – fast huh! Anything else that we should know about Shirt Fight?
ShirtFight: Wow, an hour already? Time flies when you’re being all famous and doing interviews!
Yeah, we launch at midnight (central standard time) on March 5th, and the winner of our first Shirt Fight will receive $2009 US Smackeroonies! That’s a lot of candy and fireworks riight there! We’re ready for everyone to come and check us out, kick our tires, and helps us build the best community the t-shirt world has ever seen!
Coty: Awesome, I’ll be sure to check out the launch and of course I’ll be there for the refreshments … oh wait, Internet. DOH! Thanks again, Jud and Miss Etti!
