Even if you’ve not been looking closely, you should by now have noticed that Tee-Junc has a new blogger, the man, the legend – Coty Gonzales. Savior of indie t-shirts Coty is one of, no scrap that, the most interesting, prolific t-shirt blogger around at the moment. The good news is that he’s decided to share some of his insights with Tee-Junction where he’ll be writing a post a day, all being well.
We’re delighted to have him on board and by way of an intro here is a little three question interview with Coty:
1. How, why, when did you first become interested in t-shirts?
I’ve got Gary Vaynerchuk to thank for actually getting me inspired to really immerse myself into blogging and find a niche that I was passionate about. The idea actually came about while me and a few friends were at the beach this past summer. We were brainstorming ideas for a podcast. Somehow, the idea of doing a video podcast on t-shirts came about and that got me excited because I was a huge t-shirt guy.
The following week I threw together the first incarnation of what would become my tee review videos and posted it on my personal blog. There wasn’t much interest in them because
1. No one knew who I was and
2. I didn’t know how large the indie tee scene actually was, let alone did I know that so many tee blogs already existed.
After the podcasts failed to pick up steam I decided to try my game at simply blogging about tees. I started to immerse myself into the community and because of that I got to know a ton of awesome people from various clothing brands and other blogs. Since there were already a ton of tee bloggers out there I decided to intertwine tech, web 2.0 and marketing aspects into my tee posts. I also brought back the videos – doing at least two of them a week. I wanted to make sure I came up with original content that was interesting, different and presented in a new way, not just the typical “here’s a cool tee” post. I think I’ve done just that and have found a good balance. That makes me happy.
2. You find a leprechaun swimming in your cereals. He grants you one
wish, just one wish. What do you wish for?
World peace? Honestly, right now, I really just want to wrap up my Ph.D. I’ve been at it for a couple years now and am a bit excited to get out and run my own lab and do my own research. But realistically, I’d wish for a gazillion dollars. Seriously, who wouldn’t?! Build am awesome University. Name it The University of Awesome. And then give myself an honorary Ph.D.. World peace would be my second choice. And then I’d bring back Alf and rid the world of any trace of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
3. What should you do with a drunken sailor early in the morning?
First of all, I’d ask myself why I’m with a drunken sailor in the morning. Then, I’d probably cook up some banana pancakes. I make awesome banana pancakes.
There you are, gazillion dollar wanting, banana pancake making, Phd earning, Phantom Menace hating Coty Gonzales. Welcome to Tee-Junction!
