Hide and Seek is my favorite of Flying Mouse 365’s third week of releases. In fact, I feel it’s easily the strongest piece in the collection to date, which is why it’s a huge shame it’s shoved into the third ‘page’ of shirts, where it isn’t immediately seen by prospective buyers.
The design is a classic example of Flying Mouse’s talent for juxtaposition of visual elements. The hunter is in the woods, searching for his prey, but is unaware that he’s standing right on top of that which he seeks! The drawing is expertly rendered in a monocolor pen-and-ink style, making it look sophisticated and artsy. It seems to belong more on an art print than a t-shirt, but the placement makes it right at home. I love how the antlers extend up to the neck and shoulders of the tee, and how the deer’s head protrudes from the side of the shirt, so it doesn’t look like it’s simply floating in space. This would have been an interesting candidate for a hoodie version, which sadly is not offered.
On a related note, it’s been interesting to see the evolution of the FM365 website as the maintainers responded to feedback. The altered design is certainly a huge improvement upon the gaudy yellow cheese-pattern background and blurry model mockups that made the original look rather unprofessional. I think they still have a ways to go, but I’m almost certain that with the quality of the designs, they’ll soon be a strong contender in the t-shirt world.
You can grab this shirt, and other shirts of the week, for four more days! It’s available in men’s and women’s sizes on an American Apparel blank.
