I do enjoy the gore/horror style when done correctly — call it my inner metalhead. (Yes, I do listen to metal.) And Electric Zombie has managed to hit the nail on the head with its newest line. It may be too late for Halloween, but the Friday the 13th release date is perfect, especially with this Jason Voorhees-inspired shirt! (I think? I admit I’m not too well-versed in the world of horror films.)
We all recognize the bright colors and intricate linework often associated with the horror/band tee style, especially since these three things combined are manna to the eyes of Emptees users everywhere. EZ takes a step in the opposite direction with darker and subtler designs this season. The end result? These shirts actually look a lot creepier than the ones that totally overdo it with the blood and guts. Another thing I like is the wide variety of art styles — you have painted illustration, vector design, splatter art, and of course the band-style logo tee. It makes you stop and look at each piece individually, something I consider to be the hallmark of a good line.
These tees aren’t wildly expensive, either, topping out at $20 apiece. Something I’ve always appreciated about EZ’s designer, Kyle Crawford, is that he takes a firm stance against overpricing his shirts. I’m sure every t-shirt fan is familiar with the brands that charge $30, maybe even $40 for a “designer” tee; others are starting to charge more and more with every line. In this atmosphere, Kyle’s viewpoint is refreshingly unpretentious and practical.
