Tee Invaders is another addition to the daily shirt site lineup. It was recently started in late November. The market for these sites is getting kind of crowded, so you really have to excel in some area to catch attention. How does Tee Invaders line up next to giants like Woot and Teefury?
The designs, for one, are superb. Like Teefury, Tee Invaders uses a curator system. That means mediocre designs don’t win just because they get a ton of votes. And unlike Teefury, Tee Invaders seems to consistently select much better designs. There’s less of the gag/one-shot-joke stuff and more designs you might see on Threadless.
Currently, Tee Invaders is on a special 72-hour schedule for the holidays — instead of releasing one shirt every 24 hours, it’s one shirt every 72. The good part about this is that I can write about this design without worrying about you readers opening up your RSS feed too late!
“Bear in There” is an excellent example of a successful one-color print. The linework is astounding, and the colorway well-chosen. I like how the bear’s lower half melts gracefully into the patterns. The way the bear is drawn makes it look like a spirit or ghost, lending an aura of mystery to the piece.
Since I know this is of concern to some t-shirt enthusiasts, I should probably mention that Tee Invaders uses direct-to-garment (DTG) printing as opposed to the sturdy, solid screen printing we’re all familiar with. I touch briefly upon this process in my MySoti review. This method is traditionally not as wear-resistant or sharp as screen printing, but maybe Tee Invaders will surprise us. (Also see Full Metal T-Shirt for examples of stunning DTG prints.)
