The Threadless guys are being awfully generous to us! Christmas has passed, but we’re getting yet another week of holiday sales — all shirts are still $10! The sale ends next Monday at 10 AM CT. As always, there are many interesting new tees and reprints for your perusal. Threadless has been printing a lot more variety lately when it comes to art styles; it takes everything I have to not buy all of these wonderful tees!
“It’s Toile About You” is one of the more amusing prints this week. This all over print features a repeating pattern that looks like some sort of vintage fabric from afar. Closer inspection reveals a group of characters in Victorian clothing frolicking in the warm weather, wearing goofy faces and spouting things such as “OMG”, “FFFFFF”, and “Shut up shut up”. The silliness of this tee is sure to make people laugh.
“Innovation Revolution” is another brilliant concept with gorgeous execution. I love the watercolor texturing and the delicate gradients found in the linework. Inventions of mankind literally sprout from the figure’s head, with a satellite breaking free of the jumble to hover on the chest. That it is the winner of the “Threadless Loves Innovation” contest is no surprise, as this design truly espouses the spirit of creativity.
Skull shirts have been done a thousand times over, so it’s always great to see fresh takes on the concept. Brock Davis’ “Lights Out” is just that. The image of the skull comes together via the negative space between the shards of the broken lightbulb. I love how the broken glass extends to the neck and shoulders — an oh-so-subtle but extremely well-informed decision. Brock actually made this piece from a real lightbulb, too! The original photograph was tweaked to bring us this fine shirt.
“Secret Lake” looks more like an airbrushed tee than a screenprinted one, thanks to the graceful fades and gradients. Although I can’t shake the niggling feeling that the image was put through a Photoshop filter, I still dig the artistic, watercolor/paint-like texture and the tranquil mistiness of the image.
Aaand we’ll finish up this post with “Velcrow“, a neat visual pun tee. I admit that I largely like this shirt because mint is such a delectable shirt color. Yum.
Also be sure to check out the reprints! Threadless chose a lot of great designs to revive this week, such as “Star-Cross’d Lovers“, “Solitary Dream Pt2“, and “Colorblind“.
